Calsonic Kansei visit Mechanical Engineering Students

Staff from Calsonic Kansei recently visited the college to view the engineering facilities and speak with students about the potential opportunities they could progress to.

The level 2 PEO Mechanical Engineering students were given the opportunity to take part in a discussion of how engineering and manufacturing link with one another in a modern automotive manufacturer.

The visit benefitted the students as they were able to speak with people working in the industry about their own experiences. They also had the opportunity to hear how their studies in college are helping them to build the skills required to progress in the engineering industry.

Brian Naisby, Sunderland College Engineering Lecturer said:

“Being able to arrange external speakers for the students is key, it gives them the opportunity to see what engineering is really all about and how important it is in today’s society.”

Adam Coyne Level 2 PEO Mechanical Student added:

“The session was really informative and gave us all a better idea of what Marelli does, it was also good to hear that the skills we are working on in college is what employers are looking for in people.”

Sharon Roberts, of Calsonic Kansei continued:

“Working with local colleges is one of the best ways to engage potential applicants with our company and the industry as a whole. Letting these young people know what we do is key to moving the business and industry forward.”

The college plans to take students on a site visit to the plant so they can experience an automotive production facility in action.
