Who is this course for?
This course is for any 16-18 year old who has a keen interest in finding out about how businesses work and enjoy study that is based on realistic workplace situations? This course will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge of the business environment preparing you for further education and employment.
What do you need to apply for the course?
You will need to have a standard of literacy and numeracy at Level 1 supported by the equivalent to 2 GCSEs at grade D.

This course explores a range of business topics, including the following:
- Finance for Business
- Enterprise in the Business World
- Small Business Planning
- Promoting a Brand
- Principles of Marketing
- Introducing Project Management
How you will learn
The course is practical, theoretical and realistic. You’ll be assessed through report writing, presentations, creating newsletters, observed role plays, group activities and time constrained tasks.
You’ll also have the opportunity to gain industry experience through guest speakers, visits or taking part in regional enterprise events.
Where could this course take you?
The knowledge, understanding and skills learnt in studying a BTEC First will aid progression to further study and prepare learners to enter the workplace in due course. In the business sector, learners would be aiming to move into entry-level roles, such as assistants in business administration, marketing, finance, human resources, sales and customer service.
