A-Level Further Mathematics is studied alongside A-Level Mathematics. Important mathematical topics are developed and extended beyond the level found in A-Level Mathematics alone. It is a significant benefit for any student who is considering degree-level study in mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics or closely related subjects.

You will be studying the Pearson/Edexcel A-Level Further Mathematics specification. Teaching is primarily classroom based and delivered through a progressive combination of theory-based lecture sessions, participation in engaging problem-solving activities and independent study.
Topics include: advanced use of complex numbers, matrix algebra, calculus techniques (including differential equations), as well as important extensions to algebra, trigonometry and numerical methods. In addition, you will see how these techniques are applied to important static and kinetic problems in mechanics.
During your course, you will be assessed regularly by your lecturer to ensure that you are making good progress and to help with any difficulties you may have. At the end of the course, you will sit four externally assessed exam papers:
- Core Pure Mathematics 1
- Core Pure Mathematics 2
- Further Pure Mathematics 1
- Further Mechanics 1
English and mathematics are very important subjects and will equip you with key skills that will help you to achieve your best in your a-level studies and progression towards your future career. In order to study a-level further mathematics, you will need to have achieved GCSE mathematics at a minimum of grade 7.
The sixth form day is between 9am-4.15pm and is Monday - Friday.
You will study each of your subjects for 4hr 45min per week, across three separate lessons.
Your timetable will be determined by the combination of subjects that you study and will be made available to you at the start of the academic year.
You are not required to be on campus when you do not have a timetabled lesson, although we would strongly recommend that you are. Making effective use of our learning facilities and resources during such study periods will ensure that you keep on top of your work and make significant progress in your studies, as well as developing important time-management, organisation and independent-study skills.

A-Level Further Mathematics can be a desirable, and in some cases required, A-Level for many top-rated university degree courses in mathematics, science and engineering, as well as computing science and financial mathematics.
