You will be taught using active and collaborative learning approaches and your learning will be assessed via written assessments in accordance with AQA criteria. You will also be expected to keep up with current affairs by reading newspapers, watching and listening to the news, with the view that you will use this knowledge in your assessed work.
You will cover three examined modules, UK Government and Politics, UK/US comparative Government and Politics and Ideologies. There is a synoptic theme throughout the A-Level, with the expectation that theory and knowledge can be applied to more than one examined module. The last module, ideologies, covers Conservatism, Liberalism, Socialism and Nationalism. This will allow you to gain a wider understanding of how ideas culminate into prolonged beliefs which help to shape and develop Government and Politics around the world.
English and maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.
Our A Level programmes allow you to choose multiple subjects, enabling you to study 3–4 A Levels over two years or combine them with equivalent vocational qualifications, with each subject taught for 4 hours and 30 minutes per week across three separate lessons and your timetable determined by your chosen subjects (provided at the start of the academic year).
Although you are not required to be on campus when you do not have a timetabled lesson, we strongly recommend making effective use of our learning facilities and resources during these periods to stay on top of your work.
Upon completing this course, you’ll be well-prepared to pursue a degree in politics or related fields at university. This academic foundation opens doors to careers in research, local or national government, journalism, media, teaching, law, and business. Your analytical skills and understanding of political systems will make you a valuable asset in these dynamic sectors.
