You will be provided with a suitable learning environment and the resources you need to complete the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification.
Learners will sit a nationally set exam and complete a synoptic practical assessment as part of the course.
Math's and English at grade 4 or above required to enrol on this course.
This qualification requires you to undertake an industry placement. The college will assist in finding placements to cover this aspect of the qualification.
Centres and providers work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training.
Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be
provided by the employers. This practically-based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the plumbing
industry or specialist further study.
This qualification is supported by the APHC (Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors). Since being established in 1925, the APHC have been representing employers of all sizes within the plumbing sector. They work closely with key
organisations, such as government, local authorities, training bodies and consumer organisations to ensure that best
practice in the industry is promoted and quality plumbing and heating contractors are fairly represented. They are also at the heart of maintaining vocational standards within the sector.
The APHC supports the above qualification as being important for employment within the industry.
You will usually attend college approximately 2-3 days per week.
This qualification is for you if you are a 16-19 years old and wish to work as a plumber in the building services industry. It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further learning or into employment.
Through this Level 3 vocational route, you can take a vital step towards becoming a competent plumber.
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the plumbing sector. You will cover
compulsory aspects, such as:
- Working safely and effectively
- The principles of environmental technology systems
- Cold water systems - planning and design
- Hot water systems - planning and design
- Domestic central heating systems - planning and design
Following the completion of this course, you could gain employment as a plumber or continue studying.
