What’s it all about?

Functional Skills in Mathematics is designed for learners who want to improve their understanding and skills in Mathematics. Throughout the program, you'll develop a strong grasp of the basics of mathematical problem-solving, which will help you tackle everyday challenges with confidence and give you access to a huge range of education and career opportunities. Together we can build your Maths skills and unlock your full potential!

There are a range of levels and there are no formal entry requirements for this course, as you will be assessed in college by a tutor to determine which level you will study from entry level to level 2. So no matter what you are looking to achieve with this course we will look to find the perfect option for you.

The qualification is offered through Essential Skills at City Hall, Sunderland. Centres operate a flexible appointment system where learners are expected to attend at least one session per week. You will complete 2-part assessment based around calculator and non-calculator problem solving

There are no formal entry requirements for this course as you will be assessed in college by a tutor. This will determine what level you begin with.

This is a 16 week course. Learners are expected to study 3 hours per week, although additional appointments are available during the week.

The Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualifications in Mathematics should:
? enable learners to become confident in their use of fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills
? indicate that learners can demonstrate their understanding by applying their knowledge and skills to solve simple mathematical problems or to carry out simple tasks
