What’s it all about?

Passionate about sustainable homes and energy efficiency? This part-time, four-week programme offers a comprehensive pathway into the vital role of Retrofit Assessor. Aligned with PAS 2035 standards, it equips you to evaluate domestic properties—analysing their construction, occupancy, ventilation, and energy performance. Through nine in-depth modules, you'll gain the skills to identify defects, assess heritage significance, and produce detailed reports that inform retrofit strategies.

As a regulated qualification, the Award in Domestic Retrofit Assessment Level 4 has some specific eligibility criteria. Enrolment is dependent on achieving the level 3 Retrofit Advisors Certificate.

You will learn via a blended approach, which means the knowledge content is delivered through e-Learning and a half day bootcamp, where there will be a specialist tutor on hand to answer any questions. There’s also a virtual assessment of a property, followed by the completion of a report based on a Retrofit Academy assessment report template. This is to help prepare you for the end assessment. GLH is 38 hours and the course will be delivered part time over 4 weeks.

The aim of this course is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to become a Retrofit Assessor.

The role of a Retrofit Assessor is to survey properties and prepare a report in-line with a Retrofit Coordinator’s requirements. The report includes a full EPC, a ventilation and occupancy assessment and a condition survey. Whilst this is not a full structural survey it does however look for any signs of defects that may affect any future energy efficiency improvements, as these would need to be fixed before any improvements are made.

What’s next?

Graduates are well-positioned for careers with housing associations, local authorities, or as independent consultants, contributing to the UK’s mission to retrofit 27 million homes by 2050. If you’re eager to make a tangible impact in the transition to low-carbon living, this is your opportunity to lead the change.
