What’s it all about?

This course is designed for students who have just left school and want to pursue a career in the hospitality and catering industry.

There are no entry requirements for this course other than an interest in food, positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

19+ please enquire You will be required to purchase a uniform for practical cookery sessions and working within the city bistro at a cost of £111.05 We also recommend that students purchase a knife set, although this is not obligatory £42.70 We also encourage students to contribute towards a visit / trip during the course of the year at an approximate cost of £100

You will undertake pratical assessment throughout the course of the year. Covering kitchen fundamentals and basic knife / cooking skills. Part of the week you will work within the City Bistro, which is open to the public. Within these sessions you will both cook/ and serve the guests.

No formal qualifications required to course enrolment.

You will have the opportunity to work with industry partners and the public through projects and events throughout the year.

Cafe 21, Seaham Hall, Ramside Hall and Spa and various other restaurants within the local and regional area.

Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change. Timetables are confirmed at the start of term.

To give school leavers an opportunity to increase their knowledge of cuisine and technical ability to progress onto the level 2 professional cookery qualification.

What’s next?

Progression onto Level 2 Professional Cookery qualification, with the intention of broadening your skills to enter the industry. Alternatively, you could progress onto the Level 3 qualification.
