What’s it all about?

This course provides practical cooking skills using a range of products and skills. You will also learn the theory behind professional cookery and obtain some great transferable knowledge.

You will need 4 GCSE's at grade 3-9.

19+ please enquire You will need to provide your own stationery. You will also be given the opportunity to take part in trips and visits, which may incur an additional cost. We also ask for a contribution for an overnight trip in the college year. Uniform costs are currently around £110, which you will be required to purchase at enrolment. Support is available for those applying for a bursary to help with their studies.

The course will involve a mixture of theory and practical teaching.

Assessments are both exam based and through the use of coursework and practical observations.

You will also have the opportunity to work within our City Bistro, a real restaurant working environment at City campus.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

Work experience and engagement with our external partners is an important part of the programme. You will have one week of work experience placement.

We work with a wide variety of external hospitality employers. You will also have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers and take part in demonstrations, masterclasses, visits and 'evenings with' in the City Bistro restaurant.

Classes take place over 4 days per week

Mon-Fri, with varying times in order to cover events and restaurant service. Days and times of study are subject to change. Timetables are confirmed at the start of term.

What’s next?

With this qualification, you can enter into employment in the hospitality industry.

Alternatively, you could progress onto our Level 3 Advanced Professional Cookery, with a view to future employment or to continue studing with our Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management.
