What’s it all about?

This course is designed for anyone who has a passion for IT and is looking to progress onto university or employment to work in the industry.

Information Technology is an exciting and growing field with jobs being created in the region and in the UK to support this growing area. If you are looking to work as a Software Engineer, Software Developer, Website developer, Cyber Security Analyst, Network Engineer, Helpdesk technician or Data Analyst this is the course to develop this knowledge.

Throughout the course students will develop skills in Problem Solving, Communication, Logical thinking, Organisation skills to name a few which will prepare each student to study on further study and for employment.

This course focuses on the key areas which industry requires and allows students to be supported by experienced lecturers and use industry recognised equipment and software to best prepare all students for the next steps of their career.

To be enrolled onto this programme you must have 5 GCSE A* - C or 9-4.

If you have completed a Level 2 at college previously this will also be accepted.

If you have not obtained English or Maths already you will need to discuss this with the tutor at enrolment to enquire if your entry requirements to join this course.

You will be taught using a range of teaching techniques including lectures, group work, seminars and collaboration to improve your problem solving, thinking techniques and group work skills.

Assessments will take place using assignment briefs and support from tutors. Assignments will be written, practical assessments and presentations which will prepare you for the workplace and higher education study.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

Students who do not have English and/or Maths should discuss this with the tutor on enrolment.

Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change. Timetables are confirmed at the start of term.

What’s next?

After completing this course you have the option to progress onto Higher Education, Higher or Degree apprenticeship or Employment.

Students who wish to progress onto Higher Education will be supported to progress onto HNC/HND at Sunderland College and should discuss this with their tutors during the course.
