Welfare and financial support

Financial support may be available for students who attend college. Details of the type of support available are listed below. If you have any questions about what support you might be eligible for, please contact the Student Finance team by emailing welfare@educationpartnershipne.ac.uk

Travel

Travel may be awarded to students who live more than 1 mile from campus and have a household income of less than £25, 000. Students may be eligible if they live less than 1 mile from the campus as it is not deemed a safe walking distance due to poor lighting and pedestrian walkways.

Travel will be offered in the form of a suitable travel pass. If a travel pass is not appropriate students may receive a monthly travel allowance to purchase appropriate public transport. This will be paid into their bank by BACS monthly. Students must provide travel tickets as evidence.

Course related costs

Students may apply for assistance with the help of purchasing course related costs which are not mandatory to completing their qualification;

  • UCAS Fee

 

Childcare
Students aged 20 or under must apply for childcare through Care to Learn.

  • Childcare is available from the 19+ Learner Support Fund Bursary for students who are aged 20 or over.
  • You must have a household income below £25,000.
  • Childcare provision is offered at a rate of £4.50 per hour for timetabled hours (a travel allowance will be paid up to a maximum of 1 hour each way for students travelling more than 20 miles.
  • Students who are unemployed must first use their government funded free hours. The College will then contribute toward the remainder.

 

Advanced Learner Loan Bursary

You could get help with costs such as, travel, childcare or course costs. Students may be eligible to apply for this bursary if they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have an Advanced Learner Loan Approved by Student Loans Company (SLC)
  • Meet the low household income threshold as set by the college
  • Meet the travel criteria set out by the college

Bursary payments will not exceed £250 per month for any combination of support.

Higher Education Students

If you are studying a Higher Education course you could get help with the cost of travel to campus. Students may apply for help with the costs of traveling to campus if they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Are enrolled on a Higher Education (HE) course where course fees are paid directly to EPNE.
  • Travel is awarded to students who live more than 1 mile from campus and have a household income of less than £25, 000. Students may be eligible if they live less than 1 mile from the campus as it is not deemed a safe walking distance due to poor lighting and pedestrian walkways.

 

Travel will be offered in the form of a suitable travel pass. If a travel pass is not appropriate students may receive a monthly travel allowance to purchase appropriate public transport. This will be paid into their bank by BACS monthly. Students must provide travel tickets as evidence.

Students travelling a significant distance to campus or who are required to overcome transport barriers may apply for an enhanced travel payment alongside a bus pass. This payment will be looked at on an individual basis.

Travel payments awarded to learners is subject to available funds.

You will be notified via email within 3 weeks of submitting your application form.

You may receive help with travel cost, course related cost, free college meals and childcare. What you have been awarded will be detailed in your award notification email.

Payments will be made on 21st of every month.

You should contact the Welfare Team who will advise you what to do, as there may be a fee payable.

You need to contact the Welfare Team who will email you a secure link to enter your new bank details.

Speak to a member of the welfare team with ill advise what you need to do next, you may need to supply additional evidence to support your application.

Your childcare will be paid directly to your Childcare provider monthly.
