Students at Sunderland College are celebrating making the grade after collecting their A-Level, T Level and technical qualifications results.
Hundreds of the college’s students received their results today (Thursday 15 August) with many accepting offers from some of the country’s leading universities, progressing to higher level apprenticeships or starting a new career.
Overall results this year included a 96% pass rate for students studying Level 3 vocational qualifications.
Sunderland College’s Sixth Form also achieved well in A-Levels, with many subjects including Film, Geography, Criminology, Media Studies, English Literature, Sociology, History, Politics and English Language all receiving 100% pass rates with strong high grades across all these subjects.
A significant proportion of Sunderland students gained successful entry to their first choice University with 94% of those gaining their first place.
Outstanding individual achievements included Rosie who will be studying Mathematics at the University of Oxford after receiving A* A* A* A* in her A-Levels.
She said: “I was shocked and delighted when I opened my results, I couldn’t believe it. I’m so glad all my hard work paid off.
“Sunderland College has helped me in unimaginable ways. My teachers went above and beyond to give me all the support I needed.”
Film and Media student Tyne is heading to the University of Stirling to study English Literature.
He said: “I wasn’t nervous really, as I knew I’d worked hard, but once I saw them I was relieved as I’ve got into the university where I wanted to go.
“All of my classmates and friends shared a common goal, to succeed and thrive, and everyone was supportive and Sunderland College was the perfect environment for me to try my best.”
Another delighted student, Luke, will be progressing to an HNC in esports at Sunderland College after achieving three Distinction*’s.
He said: “When I opened my results, I was happy and shocked. The environment at Sunderland College is excellent and studying at British Esports’ Performance Campus helped me a lot.”
Those students studying T Levels – at Sunderland College completed the two-year technical qualifications also impressed, with students in Health, Early Years, Digital, Construction, and Engineering achieving a 96% pass rate and strong high grades.
T Level Education and Childcare student Emilia gained a Distinction and has secured a job in a private nursery while continuing her studies at Sunderland College.
She said: “I was very surprised; I didn’t think I would get a Distinction. I’m so pleased. The best thing about studying at Sunderland College was the lecturers, they were so supportive and wouldn’t let us give up.”
Results were available to collect from Bede and City campuses from 8am with those unable to pick up their results in person receiving an email later in the morning.
The college’s Matrix Standard accredited Careers team also hosted drop-in support and one-to-one appointments offering advice and guidance on grades, clearing and course options.
Student recruitment staff from the University of Sunderland and Teesside University were also on hand to guide students through the clearing process.

In addition, our T Level students this year have also done exceptionally well.
“We are always incredibly proud of all our students and staff that make days like today happen and we wish all our students’ huge success in their next steps.”
Sunderland College is accepting applications now from 2024 school leavers for its wide range of A-Level subjects, vocational and technical courses including T Levels in Construction, Digital, Health, Education and Science.
