Who is this course for?

This course is for people looking to progress from and NVQ Level 2 hairdressing or barbering course or are a fully qualified stylist wishing to move onto the next level.

What do you need to apply for the course?

You will need to have completed a NVQ Level 2 course in hairdressing or barbering or have a suitable reference if you are currently working in the industry.

You will be required to pass a skills assessment at the start of the course.

What are the key things you'll learn?

  • Controlling health and safety in the salon
  • Providing hairdressing consultation services
  • Creative cuts using a combination of techniques
  • Colouring hair using a variety of techniques
  • Providing colour correction services
  • Plan and implement promotional activity
  • Creating hairdressing design
  • Promoting products and services

Basic skills in Communication and Numeracy are also integrated into the course (16-18)

How you will learn

The course is taught using both practical and theoretical methods in the classroom and in our dedicated training and commercial salons. You will attend a compulsory salon placement one day per week as part of the course.

The course will also develop your IT skills throughout the programme.

Where could this course take you?

After successfully completing the course you will be able to look for work in the industry or work towards the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Barbering.

If you are aged 19 or over, on the first day of your course, studying at Level 3 or above, you are able to apply for an Advance Learning Loan to cover the costs of your course, similar to arrangements for higher education students.
