SUNDERLAND College has strengthened its overseas relationship with budding students after visiting schools in South America and is calling on host families in the region to help make students dreams of studying in the UK a reality.
Representatives from the college recently visited Brazil and Colombia to speak to international students as part of a visit organised by the Association of Colleges (AoC) involving a delegation of 11 colleges from across the UK.
As a result of the visit, up to 10 students under the age of 18, registered their interest in attending Sunderland College from January to July 2015 to study English and Theatre Studies at Bede Campus’ new Visual Performing Arts centre.
Angela Lister, international business development manager, said: “The students are required by law to live with an adult and the team at Sunderland College have made it their priority to help source homes for all international students hoping to study here.
“The experience is enriching and rewarding for both students and hosts alike. Students benefit immeasurably from conversing in English in a relaxed, natural situation, such as after school or over dinner. As hosts you can rest assured that students are selected with great care and are expected to abide by your own customs and have reasonable expectations. You will also receive payment on a regular basis for hosting an international student.
“It’s a really exciting prospect for Sunderland College to enrol international students as it gives us a great opportunity to showcase our fantastic facilities but we really need the support of host families in the region.”
