Sport students at Sunderland College are enhancing their career pathways thanks to industry-specific sessions delivered by Everyone Active.
The Level 3 Sport (Development, Coaching & Fitness) students are attending the sessions over a five-week period at local Everyone Active centres across the city. Here, they will take part in specific career-focused roles in the sport and leisure sector, to experience and gain an understanding of what is required in a range of job roles, including learning skills needed to become a lifeguard, swimming teacher, tennis coach, ski instructor, personal trainer and exercise class instructor.
As a result, students will be more aware of the demands, and typical aspects of working in a multitude of different roles in the sport and leisure industry.
Andy Grainger, Lecture 2 Sport & Public Services, said: “The sessions students are participating in will be reflected on, and following this there is opportunity for students to further their experience and skills, by engaging in NGB qualifications, and this can lead to work experience in a specific area, and form career paths for our students which could lead to part-time or full-time paid work in the future.”
Sunderland College recently entered into a strategic partnership with Everyone Active, which will help the two organisations to promote education and employability opportunities, develop talent and regenerate the City of Sunderland
