Fantastic experience
Sunderland College international student athlete Dimitri Limbo, has recently been called up to play international football for his country at under 23 level.
Dimitri has engaged competitively against a range of international countries around Asia and has been provided with the experience to showcase his own football skills on the international stage.
This is an outstanding experience to build a reputation competing for his country, gaining a greater understanding into the dedication and resilience it takes to be a professional athlete.
Carl Jones, Sunderland College TASS Dual Career Academic Co-ordinator said:
“Dimitri is a hardworking student athlete who is studying the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport Performance & Excellence at Sunderland College as an international learner, engaging daily with Improtech Soccer developing his skills. Dimitri is a mature student athlete who aims to achieve to the best level he can in his coursework and is diligent in this approach. It is anticipated that Dimitri will continue to succeed on his main programme as he has adapted well to the lifestyle, culture and expectation here at Sunderland College.”
Dimitri Limbo, Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma Sport (Performance & Excellence) student added:
“I had the most amazing experience competing internationally for my country. It really gives you an insight into the life of a professional athlete, I learnt a lot about the training, dietary requirements, rest times and how to adapt to different weather conditions. It is a completely different feeling representing your country, playing with the upmost of pride, you feel like you have a responsibility to your national flag. The exposure to a different type of football, developing my skill in tournament football, has really enlightened me to progress as a footballer. I can’t wait to go back and compete in the AFC u-23 championship for Thailand 2020 qualifiers at the end of March!”
The college as a whole wishes Dimitri and the team the best of luck at The AFC Under 23 Championship Thailand 2020 qualifiers which is commencing this coming Friday!
