Students who attend Sunderland College City Campus have been involved in renovating a Christmas Sleigh and Reindeer to display on campus.
The revamped sleigh and reindeer is part of the colleges Christmas theme to support the homeless by including a reverse advent aspect, which involves collecting items of food or clothing that can used to help those less fortunate who are struggling at Christmas time.
Students from across the college worked collectively on the project, Engineering took part in the fabrication and welding of the reindeer and 3D printing of the nose and eyes, along with the electrical aspect of flashing red nose.
Automotive Engineering students worked on the refurbishment aspect and the spraying of the sleigh and reindeer. Carpentry and Joinery students ensured the seating on the sleigh was re-vamped and beauty students were even involved in adding colour and lashes to the reindeer eyes.
Steve Gardner, Sunderland College Lecturer said:
“Creating the sleigh with the students has given them a chance to showcase their skills and work in collaboration with other departments. Working to deadlines gave the students a realistic insight to the world of work and the chance to create something to help gather donations for those less fortunate this Christmas. They have all done an excellent job. We are so pleased with the final product.”
The campus wide activity has become an annual event at the college and one which staff and students look forward to every year. To view the sleigh and to donate any items to the reverse advent, please pop into City Campus reception.
