What’s it all about?

This three-week introductory course is the perfect starting point for your journey, giving you the chance to achieve a recognised Level 1 qualification, work with our experienced and supportive staff, and prepare for progression onto the right Access Diploma pathway for your future goals. Along the way, you’ll develop essential skills, explore the opportunities available at the college, and create your UCAS personal statement to set you ahead in your university application journey. More than just a qualification, this course is about building your confidence and preparing you for the next step in a caring and inspiring environment where every learner is supported to succeed.

It is preferable that students have a Level 1 qualification in English and Maths.

On this course you will experience excellence through a combination of teaching and learning styles, such as classroom lectures, study sessions, directed work with other students and independent study.

Lessons will include both practical and theoretical sessions to assist in preparing you for the expectations of studying either the Access to HE or the Progression Award courses, as well providing future employability skills. The information provided in lessons will allow you to complete the relevant assessment need to achieve this course.

There is no placements on this course.

Full attendance for 3 days per week is required.

Teaching starts at 9:30am and finishes at 2:30pm. Students have a lunch break in between sessions.

This course is aimed at students considering an application to any of the Access to Higher Education diplomas or the Progression Award to Access course. It allows students to gain a recognised qualification, whilst meeting our specialised staff and experiencing the excellent facilities that Sunderland College have to offer.

This course provides the opportunity to research the different professional skills and mindsets needed to develop employability skills and assist in professional development. Students will have the opportunity to develop their research and communications skills, which are essential to the achievement of Access to HE and Progression Award courses.

What’s next?

Upon completion of the course, student have the opportunity to discuss their progression with specialised staff, with the option to continue to either an Access to HE course or the Progression Award course.
