Over two years, you'll explore Coaching Skills, Careers in Sport, Health & Wellbeing, Sport Development, Self-employment and School Sport Delivery while developing leadership, planning and communication skills essential for guiding athletes. This programme is co-designed and co-delivered with a range of industry partners to shape the next generation of sports coaches, sports development officers and physical education teachers across the Northeast and beyond. Additionally, students will benefit from being future ready by completing a range of additional qualifications such as First-aid, Safeguarding, Level 2 Coaching Certificate & Level 3 Higher Sports Leadership Award. Whether your ambition is to study Sport Coaching in preparation for higher education or to step directly into roles such as a Sports Coach, Analyst or Development Officer, this programme of study equips you with the knowledge, skills and practical experience to thrive in a rewarding career.

This course presents young people with aspirations of becoming a sports coach or physical education teacher with a fantastic opportunity to learn from industry specialists, develop their coaching and teaching skills and enter a life-long career in this exciting and rewarding sector.
As part of the course students will study the following units:

Year 2
- Applied sports coaching

- Self-employment in sport and physical activity
- School sport delivery
Across the 2 years, students will also gain additional qualifications, including Level 2 Certificate in Coaching, Level 3 Emergency First-aid at Work, Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable People and Level 3 Higher Sports Leaders Award as well as taking part in workshops, masterclasses and placements with some of the country’s leading coaches, sports clubs and organisations.
On completion of this two-year programme, student progression to higher education degrees in sports coaching, strength & conditioning, physical education or any other sports related qualification. University places can be achieved by gaining UCAS points through programme units and the Level 3 Higher Sports Leaders Award. Students may also progress to employment in the sports industry stepping into roles such as a sports coach, sports development officer, strength & conditioning coach, performance analyst or fitness instructor. Apprenticeships such as Community Sport and Health Officer, Advanced Coaching and Personal Training are also a popular progression, blending paid employment with professional accreditation. With this blend of academic knowledge, practical skills and industry placements, you’ll be well-positioned to thrive whether you’re heading to university or stepping directly into a fulfilling career in sport.
