Sunderland College celebrate outstanding results

Students at Sunderland College are celebrating outstanding results after receiving their A-Levels, T Levels and technical qualifications results.

Hundreds of the college’s students received their results today (Thursday 13 August) from Bede, City and HICSA (Housing Innovation and Construction Skills Academy) campuses, with many accepting offers from some of the country’s leading universities, progressing to higher level apprenticeships or starting a new career.

Overall results this year included a 94% pass rate for students studying Level 3 technical qualifications with 81% of students achieving merit and distinction grades.

Sunderland College’s Sixth Form achieved strong A Levels results with excellent A*-C grades in many A-Levels subjects such as Business, English Language, Film Studies, Sociology, History, Mathematics, Media Studies and Criminology.

A significant proportion of Sunderland students gained successful entry to university with 97% of those placed gaining their first-choice place.

The first cohort of students from HICSA are also celebrating receiving their results, with their achievements marking another milestone for the state-of-the-art campus which has completed its inaugural academic year after opening in September 2025.

Stand out course T Levels in Construction Design with 100% pass rate and 83.3% Merit and Distinction grades which with many students progressing to some of the country’s leading universities, to higher level apprenticeships, or starting new careers.

Individual successes included A-Level student Lucas will be heading to Lancaster University to study Medicine.

He said: “Overall I’m really happy with how I did. The support I received from all the teachers has helped me achieve this and I don’t think I would have been able to get the grades or go through all the entry exams for university without them. They have been my biggest supporters throughout my two years here.”

A-Level student Praise Enatama will be heading to Swansea University to study Pharmacy after receiving AAB in Maths, Chemistry and Biology.

She said: “Studying at Sunderland College gave me the motivation and skills needed to progress to university.”

Games Design and Production student Ryan Barker will be studying Higher Education at the college on Animation, Games Design & VFX.

He said: “I was very happy as I achieved more than I expected. I was delighted. Studying here has taught me all of the skills I need to progress. My teachers were so helpful and supportive. I would recommend studying at the college.”

Fellow student Oluwadamilola Laogun is progressing to Northumbria University to study Adult Nursing after achieving A*BBC in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology.

She said: “I felt good when I saw my results. Studying at Sunderland College made me feel more confident in myself and the staff are so supportive and friendly.”

Art & Design student Poppy Bell will be studying Fine Art at the University of Sunderland from September after receiving three Distinction*s said: “I was relieved and extremely proud of myself after years of hard work.

“Studying at the college helped me progress as an artist and individual, which allowed me to gain the skills needed to achieve the grades for university.”

Fellow student Jake Middlemass will be progressing University of Sunderland to study Sport after achieving a Distinction* and Distinction in Sports Coaching & Development.

He said: “I’m so happy and excited for my future. Studying at Sunderland College has helped me develop, and everyone is so supportive.”

Uniform Public Services student Dakota Barrett received Distinction* and will be studying Crime and Criminal Justice at the college.

She said: “I was really happy and proud of what I have achieved. Sunderland College is an environment where I can flourish.”

Those students studying T Levels at Sunderland College also impressed, with students achieving 97% pass rate with strong high grades in Education, Engineering and Business.

One such student was Toby who achieved a Merit and Distinction in T Level Health and will be progressing to an apprenticeship at Newcastle City Council.

He said: “I felt good when I opened my results. My course consisted of a lot of academic and practical studying which helped me. The staff are really kind and understanding and I would 100% recommend studying here.”

The college is incredibly proud this year that its Students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities outperformed their peers in many subject areas and across various qualifications.

Results were available to collect from Bede, City and HICSA campuses from 8am with those unable to pick up their results in person receiving an email later in the morning.

Mike Chapman, Campus Principal for the college’s Bede campus added: “Results Day is always a special moment on campus, and it has been fantastic to see such a positive atmosphere, with so many smiling faces and students celebrating their achievements with family and friends.

“We are incredibly proud of every one of our students and the hard work, commitment and determination they have shown to reach this point. I would also like to thank our dedicated staff for the support and encouragement they have given our students throughout the year.

“Today is a celebration of everyone’s efforts, and we are delighted to see our students looking ahead to their next steps with such confidence.”

From Monday 17 August, Sunderland College will be enrolling 2026 school leavers for its wide range of A-Levels, T Levels, and technical and vocational courses.
