What’s it all about?

If you're passionate about fitness and want to build a career helping others achieve their goals, this course offers a strong foundation. You'll develop essential knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and training principles, while also learning how to plan and deliver safe, effective gym-based sessions. Alongside the main programme, you'll work towards a recognised Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, equipping you with the skills and confidence to support clients in a professional setting. Whether your goal is to move straight into the workplace or progress to more advanced study, this one-year course prepares you for the next step in your journey.

This is avocational course, so no Exams. It is course work based, and you will build up a portfolio of work both practical and theoretical. You will be assessed in a number of ways, including reports, presentations, practical delivery and observations etc.

Achieving a Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English is important, but if you're not there yet, don’t worry! We provide supportive classes to help you meet these essential criteria. These subjects form the backbone of your educational toolkit, opening doors to further studies and exciting apprenticeships. Our sessions in Maths and English will equip you with the skills needed to thrive academically and professionally.

Placement opportunities are an integral part of our curriculum, designed to bridge the gap between academic studies and the professional world. These experiences enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to real workplace challenges, enhancing their academic learning with practical skills. These qualifications aim to:
• give learners the introductory skills and knowledge to start a career in sport of progress with
employment in the sector
• prepare learners for higher or further education, through full-time or part-time study.
The objectives of these qualifications are to help learners to:
• choose a pathway and units that reflect their career or academic aspirations
• enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher or further education
or onto the Level 3 Sport qualifications
• gain and develop essential skills that are valued by employers and higher and further education
institutions
• develop knowledge and understanding of the vocational sector.

Modules

Information/ a list of modules they will study. Learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units and 1 optional unit:
• Participating in sport (6 credits)
• Anatomy and physiology for exercise (6 credits)
• Introduction to healthy exercise and nutrition (6 credits)
• Strength and conditioning training (6 credits)

What’s next?

Upon completion of this course, most learners will progress to level three Fitness and PT course, those who wish to move into coaching would have a progression route onto the level 3 Sport coaching pathway. Those who choose to go into employment after completing level two, will be well equipped for jobs in the fitness industry, e.g. gym work etc.
