What’s it all about?

This qualification aims to provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills of caring for children from birth to 5 years old. The objectives of this qualification are to guide and assess the development of skills and knowledge for the Early Years Workforce.

This qualification is designed for you if you work, or wish to work, with children from birth to 5 years old in a variety of Early Years settings. This includes working in day nursery, nursery schools, primary school reception classes, or as childminders.

You will have a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject such as Introducing Caring for Children and Young People, Childcare or a Certificate for the Children’s Workforce.

You will need GCSE English and Mathematics grades A*- C or the level 2 equivalent.

19+ please enquire You will be required to provide items of stationary such as pens, paper and files, as well as purchasing a memory stick for use in college. You will be required to apply for a DBS check.

You will attend lectures for two mornings each week from 9.30am until 12.30pm in order to learn the theory that you will need to work in the Early Years.

As this is a competence-based qualification, there is also a requirement for assessment in a real work environment. You will be required to arrange and carry out 350 hours in a suitable placement where you will work with 0-5 year olds.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. You are required to have GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths to study on this course.

There will be an element of private study attached to this course. you will be given information to read and activities to carry out as independent study.

Two mornings per week from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

What’s next?

You could gain employment in a day nursery, nursery school, primary school reception class, or as a childminder.

You could progress in your studies on to the Foundation Degree in Education and Care or the Foundation Degree in Working with Children and Families.
