A-Level Literature students have recently been involved in a three week workshop in which they have created, edited then published a short story through the University of Sunderland’s Spectral Visions Press.
English Literature students have submitted their edited short stories to ‘Horrorscopes’ a book of gothic short stories with a zodiac theme to be published at Christmas. Spectral Visions Press provides students considering a degree in English with a valuable experience in the publishing sector
Kim Lindsey, Sunderland College English Lecturer said:
“As always, it’s an absolute pleasure to work with the Sunderland University English team; it’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience university standard work in a setting that they are comfortable in. I’m very excited to see what the twisted minds of my students come up with!”
Kayleigh Fraser, A-Level Literature Student added:
“This workshop has allowed us to not only get involved with projects outside of college, but it also allows us to improve our overall English skills.”
The workshop is an annual collaboration with University of Sunderland. The college is the only one in the region that have this relationship with the Spectral Visions Press.
Dr Alison Younger, University of Sunderland Programme Leader MA English Studies
“We are delighted to have been given this opportunity to work with our closest colleagues from the FE Sector. What is particularly gratifying is seeing one of our ex-students in Kim- now an esteemed colleague with whom we are able to develop exciting opportunities for students. This includes ex-Sunderland College A-Level and now Sunderland University student creative writers who are acting as mentors for the scheme.”
