Sunderland College have hosted another Young Seafood Chef of the Year national competition at City Bistro with students from the college competing to earn a place in the grand final.
The highly regarded event saw students travel from the likes of New College Durham, Scarborough TEC, and Northumberland College to showcase their skills and compete for a place in the final in Grimsby.
The competition is open to all full-time and college based modern apprentice chefs, giving contestants valuable experience and providing young chefs with a platform to demonstrate their flair, understanding, skill and ability using seafood from sustainable sources. Teams of two are tasked with creating a three-course menu using specially selected seafood species.
Following weeks of dedication and preparation, students Oliver Rayner and Alisha Hays were awarded the Best Main Course Award, which is an incredible achievement that also qualifies them from both Sunderland College and Northumberland College, for the final, taking place in Grimsby this June.
Angela Szemcsuk, Trainer/Assessor: Front of House at Education Partnership North East said: “The entire department is incredibly proud of our students. Your passion, talent, and commitment continue to inspire us all.
“It was a day filled with creativity, ambition, and outstanding dishes – and the photos will show just what an exceptional experience it was.”
