Sunderland College has been shortlisted in Tesco’s ‘Stronger Starts’ grant programme as part of its commitment to making a positive difference to the lives of thousands of underprivileged young people across the city.
Selected from thousands of entrants to reach the final three, the college aims to provide a breakfast club at its City and Bede campuses, with the winning organisation receiving £1,500 for the community project.
Tesco partnered with charity Groundwork to create a new £5.3m grant programme to give 1 million children a ‘Stronger Start’ by improving their physical health and mental wellbeing, with the priority being projects that provide food and support to young people.
Craig Clark, Student Participation Coordinator said: “We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted to the final three, especially due to the number of organisations who have applied for this.
“Hopefully we can be successful and make a real difference to our students lives across Sunderland.”
The final three applications will be put forward to a customer vote in Tesco stores, and voting will commence from the first week in July 2024 until the end of September 2024. To vote, customers will need to make a purchase within store of any value and will receive a blue token to allocate to their chosen project.
Once voting has concluded in store, votes will be collated during the month of October and the winning organisation will be notified of the outcome of the public vote during early November.
