Sunderland College students are celebrating after winning two gold medals at the prestigious Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) National Finals in Blackpool
Trainee barber Owen Crossley followed up his first place at the regional heats by winning the Gentlemen’s Creative Cut category, while hairdressing student Melissa Croft scooped the Ladies Commercial Cut prize, both with full marks from the judges.
Owen was selected overall winner of the ‘Golden Ticket’ to join award-winning hairdresser Desmond Murray at the renowned Menspire Academy, where he will create a new look for BarberNV magazine.
Mark Sowerby, Lecturer in Barbering, said:
“This AHT competition is the biggest in the North East and is a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate the skills they have gained against some of the best talent UK universities and colleges have to offer.
“I’m so proud of both Owen and Melissa for their accomplishments, especially receiving full marks from the judges.”
