What’s it all about?

Discover the exciting world of travel and tourism while developing practical skills and industry knowledge. This course introduces students to key areas of the tourism industry, including UK and global travel destinations, factors affecting the travel and tourism industry, holiday reps and trip planning. Through a mixture of classroom learning, practical activities and real-world case studies, students will gain the confidence and skills needed for further study or employment in one of the world's largest industries.

You will need 3 GCSE qualifications at grades 3-9, ideally including English Language/Literature.

Study level Cost Additional fees
16-18 Free There is a contribution required for trips, visits and uniform at the start of each academic year. The visits are a mandatory part of the course and the students complete activities to use in their coursework, as well as learning essential skills for the industry. The current contribution is £150. This is subject to change. Eligible students may qualify for a bursary payment contribution to help with costs.

Teaching includes classroom lessons, group projects, presentations, research tasks, guest speakers and educational visits. Assessment is through a combination of coursework assignments, practical activities and externally assessed units, depending on the qualification structure.

You will be expected to attend college Monday to Friday. It is expected that you will complete work in your own time outside of your timetables hours.

Throughout the course, you'll cover a wide range of topics, including delivering excellent customer service, understanding package holidays, the operations of travel agencies, hospitality services, guided tours and the role of airports and airlines. You'll also dive into the specifics of the UK tourism industry, exploring coastal and rural tourism, as well as purpose-built visitor attractions. To develop knowledge of the travel and tourism industry, improve communication and customer service skills, build confidence, and prepare students for further education or employment.

After completing this course, students have a wide range of exciting options. You can progress to a Level 3 Travel and Tourism qualification, an apprenticeship, or entry-level employment within travel agencies, visitor attractions, airports, hotels, holiday parks and customer service roles.
