Home to the North East’s only Construction Technical Excellence College, the Housing Innovation & Construction Skills Academy (HICSA) will focus on providing industry-standard training in construction techniques and low-carbon technologies. Positioning the City at the forefront of the region’s construction and housing industry. 

Producing future builders, electricians, joiners, plumbers, HVAC technicians, installers, repairers, surveyors, designers, architects, drone operators, safety and project managers and more, with the skills and expertise needed for occupations in modern UK construction.

Our Facilities

HICSA provides tailor-made facilities to deliver training focused on modern methods of construction, electrical, plumbing, gas training and gas assessment.

Occupying over 4,000 m2,  the building offers learners the ideal combination of workshops and classrooms to develop their skills and learning.

A ‘one-stop-shop’ for student welfare, finance and support needs.

  On site café

Our on site café operates from early morning to mid afternoon, with vending facilities also available.

  Main workshop

At over 2 storeys tall, entire buildings can be built inside the 4,000 m2 vocational learning space.

Where to find us

Located opposite the Stadium of Light football stadium and the Sheepfolds Stables and located only a 10 minute walk away from the City Centre, the campus is very accessible.

Your journey to HICSA guide

  Parking and Cycling

Parking is available at the Stadium of Light with the campus providing limited accessible parking. 

Secure facilities are also available for those who cycle.

  Bus and Metro

If you're travelling by metro, St Peters' stop is a brief 6 minute walk away.

If you're traveling by bus, the 56 Cityrider, 9, 24, 35, and 700 routes have conveniently close stops.
