Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who wants to pursue a career within the science industry.
What do you need to apply for the course?
You will need to have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above, which must include two Science grades (including vocational Science), Maths and English.
What are the key things you'll learn?
You will study a range of units including:
- Principles and Applications of Science
- Practical Scientific Techniques
- Science Investigation Skills
- Genetics and Genetic Engineering
- Forensic Analysis
- Forensic Fire Investigation
How you will learn
You will learn through theory lessons, practical investigations and independent research. In the first year of the course, there is an external examination based upon the core content, as well as an externally marked practical investigation. In the second year, there is another examination and a synoptic paper which draws upon all aspects of the course.
Where could this course take you?
After completing this course you could progress onto university.
Employment specifically within Forensic Science is limited, however students with degrees in this subject find employment as Analytical Chemists with companies such as Proctor and Gamble, Glaxo Smith Kline and other companies in the chemical industry. You could also seek employment within the education and health sectors.
