Who is this course for?
This is an introductory course for anyone who is thinking about a career change or anyone who delivers training in the workplace. You are not expected to have any prior knowledge or experience of teaching.
The course is for learners with an open mind and high level of commitment to participate in a range of challenging activities that will support learners’ understanding of teaching/training professions.
What do you need to apply for the course?
You will need to hold a Level 3 Qualification in the discipline you are interested in teaching. For example: To teach Health and Social Care you must hold a Level 3 vocational qualification or A levels in a relevant subject.
You must either possess or consider working towards level 2 or GCSE in English and maths.
We welcome learners that have an open mind and a high level of commitment to participate in a range of challenging activities, all of which will support you on your teacher training learning journey.
What are the key things you'll learn?
Unit 1 Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in Education and Training.
The purpose of the unit is to enable you to understand the role and responsibilities of a teacher in education and training and the relationship between different professionals in education and training. It includes responsibility for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for their learners.
Unit 2 Understanding and using Inclusive Approaches in Education and Training.
The purpose of the unit is to enable you to understand and use inclusive teaching and learning approaches to meet the needs of learners. It includes how to create an inclusive learning environment that engages and motivates learners. The Unit requires candidates to deliver a 15 minute inclusive teaching and learning session (micro-teach).
Unit 3 Understanding assessment in Education and Training
The purpose of the unit is to enable you to understand how different types and methods of assessment are used in education and training. It includes ways to involve learners in assessment and requirements for record keeping.
How you will learn
This course is taught using a variety of methods including practical sessions, group discussion and written assignments.
Our teachers will model best practice in their teaching delivery providing you with the opportunity to evaluate a range of teaching methods and strategies to support you in the development of your own teaching and learning toolkit. We have high expectations that our learners will embrace a learner centred approach.
Where could this course take you?
Entry on to the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training providing you have 30 hours of teaching (paid or voluntary).
The College does not organise teaching hours you must source these yourself.
