Computing is a growing industry all over the world. In theNorth East this is no exception, with career opportunities developing and new businesses re-locating or growing within the region. This course is ideal for anybody who wants to upskill or have a career change to progress into the computing industry whether this be as a programmer, networker, project manager, data analyst.
You will have the opportunity to access state-of-the-art, industry standard software and equipment to use. Modules on this course have been carefully selected to ensure that you are able to develop your knowledge and skills within the computing industry. Upon completion of this course you will have the opportunity to progress onto higher education or straight into employment.
If you choose to study this course you must have or actively be working towards:
- Maths and English GCSE (A-C or 9-4)
- Functional Skills Level 2
- A relevant Level 2 qualification
- A passion for the Gaming industry
- Some prior knowledge / experience of the gaming industry
- Good problem solving and analytical skills

Teaching includes a mixture of both theory and practical units to work through in class with your lecturers. Some modules are blended and will therefore be taught remotely however this will be discussed at interview.
It is expected that you hold GCSE's in Maths and English at grades 4 or above, or a Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and English qualification however this can be discussed when invited to interview.
There is no specific placement assigned to this course however if you do want to gain some work experience in the industry this would be encouraged and supported by your lecturers.
You will have the opportunity to attend some virtual events with industry experts. In addition to this you may also have the opportunity to listen and interact with guest speakers.
When studying you will be expected to spend time outside of lessons working on coursework and studying. You will also have access to study areas in college to support your learning and development.
This course will be delivered on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings, from 4pm - 8pm.
Some units will be home based and therefore these will be supported during the day.

- Programming Principles
- Web Page Design
- Understanding Relational Database Software
- Computing Project
- Academic Skills for Access to HE
- Using IT, Numeracy and Data for Learning and Research
Oneawards
This course is a fast track programme and those who enrol will therefore be expected to complete the qualification by July 2021, meaning work inside and outside of college is expected to be able to meet deadlines.
On completion of this course you will have the opportunity to progress onto Higher Education at our college and study our HND or HNC in Computing. If you are aged 19+ and do not currently hold a level 3 qualification and are looking to progress to university or employment in the industry, this is the course for you.

Learners who complete this course can progress onto Higher Education at a range of local and national universities. Alternatively students may decide to progress straight onto employment.
