English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE maths and/or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.
As a college we work closely with local employers and participate in industry visits alongside guest speakers attending the college to showcase the latest technologies in the industry
As part of the programme you will be given a timetable that will outline the days and times that you will be attending college.
Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change. Timetables are confirmed at the start of term.
You will learn the correct procedures for preparing surfaces to receive paint, masking techniques and applying foundation coatings and solid colour top coats.
The learning programme involves learners studying both the theory and practical aspects, including:
preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
preparing and applying fillers and foundation materials to vehicles
repairing minor paint defects.
Learners will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
Upon completion of the Level 2 programme, you could then continue your learning and career progression with the Level 3 Accident Repair Principles at Sunderland College.
This qualification also forms the knowledge component (technical certificate) of the IMI SSC Accident Repair Apprenticeship framework (for Paint). When an apprentice has achieved a Level 2 Apprenticeship, they can then choose to broaden their education and training in other ways from this firm base.
