What’s it all about?

This engaging and motivating Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) is generally aimed at learners 16-19 years old who have a keen interest to learn about vehicle accident repair.

This qualification consists of mandatory units and vehicle accident repair units; both sets of units need to be successfully completed to achieve this qualification.

You will learn the theory of paint operations in the classroom and work on vehicles in the paint shop. You will be assessed through coursework and take an online test.

English and maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE maths and/or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change, timetables are confirmed at the start of term.

You will learn the correct procedures for repairing panels, preparing surfaces to receive paint and applying primers, plus associated hand skills.

Mandatory units include:

- Health and Safety in the Workplace
- Tools, Equipment and Consumable Materials for Vehicle Maintenance

Vehicle accident repair units include:

- Remove And Replace Interior And Exterior Trim
- Vehicle Damage Assessment
- Introduction to Metal Preparation
- Minor Panel Damage Repairs
- Vehicle Paint Preparation
- Spray Gun Components and Maintenance
- Paint Spraying and Masking Techniques
- Primer Preparation and application Techniques
- Removing and Applying Graphics and Lettering
- Vehicle Exterior Valeting and Detailing
- Vehicle Interior Valeting and Detailing

The units have been developed to provide flexibility for this qualification. Learners will develop their knowledge and skills in a mainly practical setting, which will help them prepare for further studies in the vehicle accident repair industry or to go intoemployment.

What’s next?

Learners can typically progress to a higher level of learning, such as a Level 2 Certificate or Diploma, or supplement their progress to GCSEs and other appropriate destinations, such as apprenticeships and employment in the industry.
