What’s it all about?

This course will help students to develop the skills and knowledge needed to successfully progress to any of our Level 3 sport courses, enter a career in the sport and leisure sector or gain an apprenticeship.

You will need 2 GCSE's at grade 3 - 9.

If you do not meet the entry criteria for this course then you can enrol on our Level 1 Sport and Public Services course and then progress to this Level 2 course at the end of the year.

19+ please enquire There will be minimum costs for your own stationary (paper, pen, file etc). You will also be expected to purchase the college's sport kit to be worn during practical sessions. Bursary support will be available for those that are eligible.

This course combines practical and theoretical delivery and content. You will develop coaching and leadership skills, develop your practical skills in selected sports, as well as testing and developing your own fitness. You will also develop your understanding of how the body systems work and how to correctly fuel the body to maximise sporting performance.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways throughout the course such as practical observations, reports etc. There are no exams for this course.

Maths and English are very important and if you have not already achieved a GCSE grade 4 or higher in Maths, English or both you will resit these alongside your Level 2 Diploma in Sport.

As part of this course you will complete a 1-2 week work placement in a job role of your choice. Our specialist staff will support you with this and organise the placement with you.

This course has been designed with employers to make sure that you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours employers want from their future workforce. You will have the opportunity to visit employers, take part in master classes and guest sessions, as well as completing a 1-2 week work placement for a job role of your choice.

This is a full time course. Your timetable will be provided at enrolment and normally runs across 4 or 5 days of the week between the hours of 9am and 4pm.

- Anatomy and Physiology
- Effects of Exercise on the Body Systems
- Planning and Leading Sports Events
- Nutrition for Sports Performance
- Psychology for Sports Performance
- Fitness Testing and Training
- Development of Personal Fitness

If you are a talented performer, you could also be part of our successful individual and team Sports Academies.

What’s next?

Once you have completed this course you could progress to one of our Level 3 Sport courses in either:
– Sport and Exercise Sciences
– Sports Coaching & Development
– Sports Fitness and Personal Training

You could also progress to an apprenticeship or gain employment in the sport and leisure industry.
