What’s it all about?

This course is for anyone who wishes to build on their level 2 qualification and work as a Carpenter or Joiner. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the test(s) are based on what you can do as an individual through the completion of all the requirements of the qualification.

You will need Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery qualification or equivalent prior industry experience.

You will learn through a variety of methods including: classroom teaching / craft workshop activities / library and learning resource centre work / information technology activities / tutorials / directed work with other students/ directed study in the learning centre. You will be assessed using online/written assignments in the classroom and practical activities within the workshop

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

We work with the following employers to help you gain real work skills: Gentoo, South Tyneside Homes, Sunderland Council and small specialist construction and building companies. Working with these industry partners ensure you gain an outstanding learning experience with us and are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to progress to a career in industry.

Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change. Timetables are confirmed at the start of term.

What’s next?

Pn completion of the Level 3, you could advance onto a BTEC or HNC with a view to move forward on to a HND. Or, you could apply for an apprenticeship in your chosen trade.
