You will receive both practical and theoretical training in the following areas:

- The requirements to install, commission and handover small scale solar photovoltaic systems
- The installation, commissioning and handover of small scale solar photovoltaic systems
- The requirements to inspect, service and maintain small scale solar photovoltaic systems
- Inspecting, servicing and maintaining small scale solar photovoltaic systems

You will require a minimum Level 2 grade in Maths and English for this course.

This course is delivered over 3 days per week.

This course is for experienced electricians wishing to achieve a nationally recognised qualification in the installation and maintenance of small-scale grid tied photovoltaic systems.

The course is based on the National Occupational Standards as published by industry and is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join the scheme.

This course is designed to provide installers with the knowledge, skills and understanding to install, commission and maintain solar photovoltaic panels and systems.

Within the course you will cover:

- The solar resource
- System configurations
- Solar system design
- Solar modules
- Solar module mounting structures and arrays
- Electrical wiring of the solar system and associated components
- Solar modules
- Grid-connected solar systems
- Charge controllers
- Batteries
- Practical PV wiring and maintenance sessions
- Sizing solar systems
- System testing and commissioning

What’s next?

On completion of this course, you could progress to further study or employment in the construction and building services sector, specifically focusing on small scale solar photovoltaic systems.
