Progression to Sixth Form

You will need 5 GCSE's at grades 3-9, including Maths & English Language.

This course in predominantly delivered within a classroom setting, whilst also utilising our Innovation Space to ensure a creative and project-based approach to the course content.

All courses that are part of this programme are assessed via the completion of a portfolio of work, which will consist of a wide range of assessment types that evidence your understanding and application of the subject matter.

- Worksheets
- Video and audio recordings
- Self-assessments
- Workbook/sheet activities
- Written essays
- Multiple choice tests

There are no exams associated with this programme.

You will be awarded a 'pass' or 'fail' following completion of your portfolio.

If you did not achieve a grade 4+ in GCSE Maths or English Language at school, you will be able to resit these and we will support you to attain these qualifications.

As a full-time programme, you may be expected to be present on campus at any given time during the week (Mon-Fri).

You will have approximately 15 hours per week of timetabled lessons, broken down by subject/course as below:
Criminology - 2 hours per week
Psychology - 3 hours per week
Social Sciences and Study Skills - 8 hours per week

You will also have allocated time (2 hours) for specific skill-development sessions to support your progress within the programme.

This programme will provide you with the foundational skills and knowledge to progress to subjects in the Social Sciences subject area, such as Law, Criminology, Psychology and Sociology.
It has been tailor-made to provide opportunities for school-leavers who may not have achieved the required grades at GCSE to step straight into A-Levels, or for those students who do not feel prepared to start their A-levels immediately.

As part of the course, you will study Level 2 Principles in Criminology, Level 2 Certificate in Psychology and Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further Study in Social Sciences.

Ascentis

This programme of study is suitable for school leavers who are aged 16 at the start of the programme (September).

Students who study this programme will have future aspirations to progress into Sunderland Sixth Form and study A-Levels within Social Science subjects, such as Psychology, Law, Criminology and Sociology.
