What’s it all about?

This qualification is for you if you wish to work towards becoming a plumber in the building services industry. It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further learning through an apprenticeship programme or into employment. This vocational route at level 2 is a vital step towards becoming a competent plumber.

The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the plumbing sector. You will cover compulsory aspects such as:
- Hot Water
- Cold Water
- Sanitation
- Central Heating

Sunderland College will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers. This practically based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the plumbing industry or specialist further study.

You will need to have a GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and English, or a Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing.

This course is taught through both theoretical and practical classes with assessment carried out via assignments, portfolio building and individual and group based presentations.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

What’s next?

Once qualified, there are many specialist qualifications available, such as environmental technology systems and designing and planning complex water systems.
