Struggling working from home during the pandemic and unhappy in his job, Jonathan was looking to change his career and life. He applied for the AAT Level 2 course and has progressed to Level 4 while gaining employment as an accountant.

AAT Level 2, Level 3 and I’m currently studying Level 4.

I wanted to achieve the qualifications to change my life course out of a retail job to a career I was more interested in.

Meeting people from all walks of life who inspired me to improve.

The Programme Leader, Deb Roper, has been an amazing inspiration and role model and her experience in the field gave me insight to know what a job in accountancy would look like.

In addition to this I applied for multiple accountancy positions since starting with Sunderland College and deb has supported me through each application as well as actively looking out for vacancies to put me forward for.

I would recommend the college to anyone wanting to change their career path due to the available support and enthusiasm of the staff.

I am still with Sunderland College studying my AAT Level 4 and have now taken a job as an Accountant thanks to my qualifications and knowledge I’ve gained since studying here.

To progress as far as possible within accountancy whilst working towards gaining qualifications to ensure a good salary later in life.

Without the support and inspiration from the course I would still be working in a job which I disliked with no chances of progression in my career.

I applied for my course during the 2020 pandemic when I was struggling working from home and I could no longer manage working for my previous employer.

I didn’t know if the course would be for me however after a phone call with Deb I was motivated to take the first step.

The course started during the lockdown and I can only commend Deb even more for the work she put in to deliver the course content remotely via Teams – she kept everyone motivated and kept the experience enjoyable whilst helping us through a set of exams soon after returning to college.
