A new partnership between Sunderland Care and Support and Sunderland College is offering people the opportunity to start a career in health and social care.
One of the North East’s largest providers of innovative social care services, Sunderland Care and Support is looking to recruit 10 apprentice support workers who will work as part of a team to help vulnerable people with range of complex social, physical and health needs achieve their maximum level of independence.
As well as working within a supportive environment to develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours to become an effective support worker, apprentices will also study towards a Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care at Sunderland College.
Upon completion of the 12-month course, they apprentices will be offered a guaranteed interview for a support worker role with further training and development opportunities available including higher level apprenticeships, leadership programmes and progression to care coordinator, Team Leader, and Managerial roles.
Faye Gregory-Smith, Business Manager at Sunderland Care and Support, said: ‘We are really excited at the prospect of recruiting 10 new apprentices into the organisation.
“Apprenticeships are a key focus for us, and we consider them as a valuable way to grow our staff base. Most of our former apprentices have gone on to become permanent members of staff so this is a great opportunity for people to not only gain the skills they need to work in the sector, but also move into full time employment with us.”
The training element of the apprenticeship is being delivered by Sunderland College, part of Education Partnership North East (EPNE), which has worked with Sunderland Care and Support to develop a bespoke apprenticeship programme to fulfil their needs.
Peter Robertson, Head of Business Development at EPNE, said: “Sunderland Care and Support has a great reputation for nurturing new talent in health and social care.
“As one of the largest providers of health and social care in the North East, the new apprentices will work in quality settings to develop their skills and knowledge, and the experience they will receive will set them up perfectly for a long career in the sector.” To apply for one of the vacancies visit www.findapprenticeship.service.gov.uk.
