Who is this course for?

This course is for you if want to be able to provide sports massage therapy to a wide range of clients including sports performers, athletes and individuals with pre-diagnosed injuries. You will be able to treat and seek to correct common patterns of dysfunction and pre-diagnosed injuries.

What do you need to apply for the course?

You must hold a Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy before you can apply for this course. This level 3 massage course is available as part of Sunderland College’s adult education programme. Massage is a physical activity and students will need to be fit enough to carry this out.

What are the key things you'll learn?

You will learn about the clinical procedures for client assessment and treatment planning and be able to conduct initial physical assessments. You will go on to learn about the theory behind neuromuscular and soft tissue mobilisation techniques and how to carry out these techniques in practice in a manner specific to your client’s needs.

How you will learn

This course includes both theory and practical classes based in the brand new sports academy building at the college which includes a sports massage treatment area and state of the art classroom environments. You will treat live clients on this course to build your portfolio of practical evidence. You will also be assessed through coursework and practical demonstrations.

Where could this course take you?

This course is recognised by the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council (GNHC) and the General Council for Massage Therapies (GCMT) and confirms your competence at level 4. This allows you to work as a sports massage therapist and be named on the massage register maintained by the GNHC.
