What’s it all about?

This course is ideal for you if you want to increase your knowledge and awareness of mental health.

Mental Health and Well-being is a national priority and this qualification is suitable for those of you wishing to gain an understanding of Mental Health, as well as for those who are already working or volunteering within Education, Health, Housing, Social Care or Youth Work related sectors who wish to gain a recognised qualification.

You need to be aged 19 or over to apply for this course. You will be required to possess or be working towards level 2 English and Maths qualifications. This is a knowledge-only qualification; therefore no real work environment placement is required. However, it would be beneficial to you if you already possess a Level 2 qualification in relation to health, social care or mental health or associated sectors.

19+ please enquire The course cost is £800. Additional costs will include items such as stationary to create your portfolio and some resources for presentations and posters if required.

You will be required to produce a portfolio, and will participate in a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies to include individual and group work activities and tasks, essays, leaflets, mini presentations, workshops, booklets, posters and discussions. There are no exams.

No placement required for this course.

There will be consistent links to industry made throughout this course in relation to the health, social care and mental health sector.

This course will be delivered using a blended learning approach. However, you must be available for half a day per week. In addition to this, you will be required to engage in additional independent study to complete your portfolio and assessments.

Studying this qualification will help you to understand mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved, as well as how to support mental well-being through various stages of life. You will also gain an understanding of mental ill health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill health. This course will enable you to develop the skills required to work in a mental health or related service.

You will study a range of topics including:

- Unit 1 Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing
- Unit 2 Promotion of mental health and wellbeing
- Unit 3 Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences
- Unit 4 Understanding mental ill health
- Unit 5 Working in mental health.
