South Shields FC Academy player and Sunderland College student athlete Will McCamley has signed a long term contract with Huddersfield Town FC following a recent trial earlier this year.
Will, who has just completed his two year programme with Sunderland College and South Shields FC will now play for the Terriers who start the 2019-20 season in the Championship following their recent relegation from the Premier League.
Will was able to join our TASS accredited South Shields FC academy and combine his academic studies with an elite footballing programme. He has just completed his Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence) achieving an outstanding D*D*D*.
Carl Jones Sunderland College Football Development Centre Coordinator said:
“To receive the news that Will has signed a contract with Huddersfield Town was the icing on the cake following an outstanding season that also saw the academy win their first national trophy following the cup final win against Basford United in the U19 National League Alliance. Everyone at Sunderland College would like to wish him the very best of luck in the future as he embarks on his dream career as a professional footballer. He has been a pleasure to have in the academy and we can’t wait to see how he progresses in the future.”
Will McCamley, Level 3 BTEC Sport (Performance & Excellence) student added:
“I have had the most amazing 2 years at Sunderland College and South Shields FC. A special thanks goes to my coaches Graham Fenton and Lee Picton, the experience they provided, their daily input and the platform for development they have provided so I was able to showcase my skills has been everything I could have wished for. I have seen a remarkable change in my confidence levels since the beginning of the programme. The friendships I have made within the academy is something I will hold onto fondly and the experience gained has prepared me well as I embark on my next challenge with Huddersfield Town FC.”
Graham Fenton, Joint Manager of South Shields Football Club (1st team and Academy)
“Our congratulations go to Will McCamley on securing a 2 year contract at Huddersfield Town FC. Will has worked exceptionally hard over the past 2 seasons here at South Shields FC and made improvements in all aspects of his game. He has performed extremely well in a range of challenging games in his time with us. This shows he has developed the confidence and mental capability needed to deal with the demands he may face over the next few years. Everyone wishes him the very best of luck in his endeavours of becoming a first team regular at Huddersfield Town FC!”
