A CRACKING day of free fun-filled activities has been organised by Sunderland College to egg-cite both kids and adults during the Easter break.
The college’s Easter Family Fun Day on Wednesday 15 April features a host of entertaining events for people of all ages and includes free refreshments for children.
Youngsters can enjoy face-painting, Gruffalo adventure trails, a mask-making session, street dance lessons and Disney ballet classes, while teenagers and adults can choose from photography, dance, music, radio show, computer games design, and art taster workshops.
SAFC mascots Samson and Delilah will be meeting and greeting visitors at the college and amusing the crowds.
Jane Reed, head of Visual and Performing Arts at Sunderland College, said: “Our Easter Family Fun Day promises to be jam-packed with lots of entertaining activities for children, as well as educational sessions for adults who fancy trying something new or want to brush up on their skills.”
People will also have the opportunity to find out more about the visual and performing arts short part-time courses on offer to adults, which begin after the Easter holidays.
The 10-week evening courses include digital imaging, painting and drawing, pattern cutting, photography for beginners, sewing techniques, dance techniques for beginners and music band for beginners.
Jane added: “The adult workshops at the fun day will give people an insight into the short courses available as well as demonstrating the type of content covered within the various programmes. We will be launching a full-time computer games design course in September, and will be holding taster sessions at the fun day so people can get a preview of what this exciting new course will entail. Staff will be on hand to answer any queries about the courses and we can also sign-up people on the day.”
The Easter Family Fun Day will be held in the college’s new multi-million pound Visual and Performing Arts building at Bede Campus, which opened in September. The impressive space spans 50,000 square feet and features a 220-seat theatre; film screening room; media/TV, drama, dance, art, and fashion and clothing studios; a music technology suite; photography studio; dark room and film processing facilities.
Jane said: “We are looking forward to welcoming the public to the fun day and to give people the chance to see our wonderful facilities. The Visual and Performing Arts building is very much a community venue and we want the people of Sunderland and surrounding areas to make full use of it.”
