Free courses to improve peoples’ job prospects by helping with maths and English skills have been re-launched by Sunderland College.
Now in its eighth year the Test the City initiative has already led to over 20,000 people in Sunderland achieving nationally recognised maths and English qualifications. And the initiative has been so successful that it has been rolled out nationally.
As part of the re-launch an event is being held at The Bridges, Shopping Centre, Sunderland on Tuesday, March 6. The Test the City team will be on hand to answer any questions and to sign people up for the courses.
Jane Thompson, head of learning and standards at Sunderland College said: “Most jobs now require basic maths and English qualifications and not having these skills can be a real barrier to entering employment.
“That’s where Test the City can make such a big difference to people’s opportunities to find work. It’s a great initiative for anyone who feels they lack confidence and basic skills in maths and English.”
Tests can be taken at two different levels with Level 2 the equivalent to GCSE or NVQ Level 2.
