Research & Insight

We believe applied research is an excellent way of improving curriculum relevance and teaching and learning activity. As well as being excellent teachers, many of our academic staff are active researchers and are supported by our system of Research Fellowships. These are a popular vehicle for enabling our staff to author research projects and have been identified as good practice in a recent QAA inspection of our higher education provision.

In addition to the Fellowship programme, research is also supported via our college research journal, ‘Praxis, the Journal of Practitioner-based Research’. This peer-reviewed periodical enables our academic staff to engage with the wider research community of national and international scholars by publishing the results of their enquiries.

The journal’s team of reviewers offer exemplary experience of high quality research achievement and include academic staff from the universities of Durham, Sunderland, Teesside and Northumbria, the Principal and Chief Executive of Worcester College of Technology, a National Teaching Fellow as well as experienced researchers from Sunderland College.

We also encourage our students to submit research to the journal as having work peer reviewed and published is a great achievement, strengthening both the value of research in developing the scholarly ability of our students, as well as the dedication of our academic staff.
